Secret Society - Mysticism - Rosicrucian Fundamentals
Is the AMORC Rosicrucian Order a secret, mystical society? Well, I suppose it is, secret in the sense that once you get to the higher levels, you're not likely to discuss what you're learning because not too many will comprehend your new knowledge. Mystical in the sense that it involves spiritual dimensions, not magic or strange or disturbing behavior.
A 'perfecting' Rosicrucian (that's the preferred term, as opposed to just 'I'm a Rosicrucian) has an appetence toward the mysteries of the universe and things of a spiritual nature. Devotion to perfecting their philosophy and the realization that it is possible to learn the meaning of life are the primary motivators for continued study.
As a fairly new perfecting Rosicrucian, I can presently confirm that the teachings of the AMORC have not caused any sort of upheaval in my family or social circumstances. I am changing, progressing, and making new discoveries, but none have caused any concern or raised any flags so far. In fact, I am hoping for a more profound and vigorous change very soon. The early Rosicrucian practice involves reading one 'monograph' per week. A monograph is a small booklet with three or four brief lessons, each imparting a special tidbit of wisdom and knowledge. Each monograph usually features a special excerpt or reading from a well known Rosicrucian or other respected author. A beneficial transformation may take place as the message of each lesson gradually takes root during the week.
The mystical aspect of the AMORC teachings involve the enhancement of our spiritual connection with the First Cause, or God. Any philosophy, religion, or science whose goal is to increase our understanding of the universe and our place in it, is mystical. While AMORC claims to be a mystical order, it is not a religion. AMORC teachings lean more toward the study of life and the truths that shape it. One might think of religion as a system of beliefs regarding a particular revelation, and Rosicrucianism a path to knowledge - most often, knowledge of the practical sort.
The AMORC Rosicrucian Order should not be confused with any other Order using the term Rosicrucian. The AMORC teachings have their roots in the mystic schools of Egypt, going back thousands of years. They AMORC teachings also include many contemporary works from more recent times, including Leonardo da Vinci, Cornelius Heinrich Agrippa, Francis Bacon, Jacob Boehme, Rene Descartes, Isaac Newton, Benjamin Franklin, and Claude Debussy. The mystical principles have gradually evolved, keeping up with the times. Not frozen in time, but culturally enriched.
Generally speaking, everyone is capable of mastering the AMORC teachings and freeing themselves from ignorance.
